Week 3

Week 3 was a little easier for me as I already had a Vision account set up. However, I did create my first list, leave my first comment on a book,  and picked my first person to follow.

I can see these features being a good tool for the library to use. If I remember correctly lists of the top ten circulated fiction and non-fiction books in different departments are created every few months. From there someone could look at these books on the Vision catalogue and see what other suggestions are made based on the comments left by readers. These suggestions may include books that the library does not currently have but may be popular.

I believe the lists, comments and follows may be of more benefit for individual people than for the library though. It is an easy way to sort through all the books available through the library and find ones that will likely interest an individual with minimal research.

I noticed that patrons can easily make suggestions on what books they would like to see at the library. I think that is a very helpful tool for both the library and its patrons.

Good job on Vision and keep up the good work!

Week 2

This week I set up a Twitter account; followed accounts of authors, reviewers, libraries and co-workers; and posted my first tweet.

I believe Twitter could be a useful tool for the library to communicate with its patrons to:

  • let patrons know when new books have been added to the shelves
  • notify patrons of programs and events that are happening
  • notify patrons of unexpected closures
I also believe that Twitter could be a useful tool for the library by following authors, publishers and reviewers to gain information on upcoming projects, release dates and peoples thoughts on recently released materials.

Week 1

I suppose I should start this blog by introducing myself. My name is Morgan and I have worked at the library for over a year now. I am mostly interested in reading science fiction/fantasy books as well as graphic novels.

I have never had a blog before so this is a new experience for me. The set up of a new e-mail account and blog was very straight forward and it will be interesting to see what I will be discussing with all you fine people in the coming weeks.
